The Igloo down light cover is easy to install. A simple few steps and the down light cover snaps into place. The transformer has a neat little slot that it clips into and is lifted above the insulation. The Igloo has small vents at the top to let any heat build up escape.
Once the Igloo down light cover is in place and the transformer clipped into its slot, the insulation can be pulled back around. This down light is now completely safe.

Downlight covers Protect your home from fire – use an Igloo down light cover

cellulose3 housefire page1-img1
A down light with no cover fitted showing the scorching from the down lights heat. A house fire caused by our unprotected downlights can be prevented with an Igloo down light cover. This house has an Igloo down light cover fitted and protected.

A down light cover that snaps over LED lights, Halogen lights, low voltage lights and whatever light it is that you are using in your ceiling is a necessity not a luxury. Down light covers provide the security and prevent ignition of ceiling insulation by not allowing the heat to bypass the cover and start a house fire.

Protecting your home from fire is not just protecting your main asset but also your family. The insulation in your ceiling could prove to be fatal if your down lights are not protected. Did you realise that it is a mandatory government requirement since 2009 that ALL downlights have to be covered with some form of Downlight Cover. There have been too many fires from installers installing insulation over the top of downlights without shielding. The heat from a downlight, particularly a Hologen down light is more than enough to ignite the insulation in your ceiling.

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is the equivalent body in the USA to FPA Australia. NFPA produces a vast range of "Codes" similar to Australian Standards: in many instances, there is no equivalent Australian Standard.

In 2005, FPA Australia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the NFPA to provide a framework for our two organisations to work cooperatively together to reduce the impact of fire through the development of codes and standards, industry guidance documents and publications, and through conducting educational events.

As part of this agreement, FPA Australia is able to localise NFPA Codes for use in Australia, by developing a companion document called a "Good Practice Guideline" to be made available to accompany the relevant Code.
