Why do you need Down Light Covers?
Did you realise that it is a mandatory government requirement since 2009 that ALL down lights have to be covered with some form of Downlight Cover. There have been too many fires from installers installing insulation over the top of down lights without shielding. The Igloo down light cover has been designed with fire protection in mind and as such passes all fire rating tests. Do you want to put your loved ones at risk?
Halogen Down Lights can reach a temperature of 200-300 degrees celsius. The IGLOO™ Down light Cover was developed by a Product Design Engineer according to the needs of insulation installers combined with the requirements of the Building Code of Australia. This presents a real problem for the householder that has downlights without protection in the ceiling. Halogen down lights that are now very popular as an interior design feature produce far more heat than a standard bulb. If they are installed in your house and you do not have downlight covers protecting them it is quite possible that the heat energy from your halogen could ignite any ceiling insulation that is close by. If the insulation is covering the downlight then you could have ignition at any time. The IGLOO™ Downlight Cover has been designed to clip into place quickly and securely. Even if your downlight is next to a beam with a minimum 5mm clearance, the Igloo will get that close to the beam.

The image to the left shows a ceiling with downlight surrounded by loose fill insulation and no protection from a down light cover. |

As the heat from the light builds up the insulation becomes scorched and is nearing ignition. The Igloo down light cover would prevent a fire in this siituation. |

|
In this photo the insulation is severely scorched and has started to burn. Again, with an Igloo down light cover installed this would prevent a fire from starting. |

The older the insulation the drier and more combustaible it becomes particularly when any fire retardent features have worn off. The Igloo Down Light cover is made from Polypropylene, with complete flame retardant capabilities.
